Cryptocosts rarely close in one day, but sometimes one vulnerability is enough for the service to decide to leave the market. Ctrl Wallet announced that it was shutting down a few weeks after the security incident, and asked users to withdraw the assets by August 3, 2026.
The problems began on June 23, when Ctrl Wallet reported a vulnerability that affected part of Cardano wallets on the platform. The service temporarily limited the work and transferred the application to the service mode to protect users’ funds.
Now the company has decided to close the wallet completely. From August 3, users will no longer be able to send, receive and exchange funds, as well as perform other actions in the application. The only available function will remain the export of the recovery phrase, with which you can transfer access to assets to another compatible wallet.
Ctrl Wallet will also cease to be distributed and removed from app stores and browser extensions. Until the deadline, users are advised to transfer funds to another crypto wallet or exchange. The company separately warned that it does not distribute tokens and does not launch a migration token, so the promises of bonuses in social networks and on third-party sites may be fraud.
Ctrl Wallet used to be called XDEFI Wallet and supported more than 2500 blockchain networks, including Cardano and Midnight. According to the company's page in the social network, the service was used monthly by more than 650 000 people.
In the spring, Ctrl Wallet began to be managed by Emurgo, the commercial division of Cardano. The company then stated that the multi-point architecture of the wallet will continue to operate inside SecondFi. However, on June 24, the vulnerability in Second Fi won’t allow the attackers to withdraw about 16 million ADA, which at that time was estimated at about $ 2.4 million. Later, SecondFi сообщилreported that it plans to compensate the owners of 374 affected addresses. The service also said that emergency measures have protected about 129 million ADA and transferred funds to the independent custodian while the system is being checked and restored.
